INDOT has released a USP to implement the falsework specification revisions that the ICI/INDOT Joint Cooperative Bridge Subcommittee worked on this spring.
BACKGROUND
Back in the fall of 2015, several contractors notified ICI that multiple INDOT district personnel had enforced a full 15-day period before any bridge falsework could be removed. The common practice is that falsework could be removed after achieving a desired flexible strength, typically after two to five days post pour.
SPECIFICATION REVISION HIGHLIGHTS
- For falsework under a slab top: falsework shall remain in place at least seven days and attain or exceed a 480 psi flexural strength.
- For falsework under a bridge deck including overhang: falsework shall remain in place at least three days and attain or exceed a 480 psi flexural strength.
- For substructure falsework: falsework shall remain in place at least three days and attain or exceed a 480 psi flexural strength
Per the INDOT memo from Mark Miller, the USP is retroactive and should be added per a zero dollar change order to applicable current or future contracts that do not include the USP.
ICI WILL FOLLOW UP BY:
- Reinforcing to ACEC
- Pushing to get this revision into a RSP and into the 2018 S.S.
