Road builders, engineers, INDOT personnel and utility representatives met Sept. 23 in the LaPorte District for the latest Indiana Transportation Team Utility Summit.

Through presentations, an excellent panel discussion and roundtable conversations, the group tackled topics ranging from SUE and staking and to coordination challenges that impact projects.

The Indiana Transportation Team's Vincennes District added a fourth leg to the stool this week, bringing utility representatives into a coordination conversation with contractors, engineers and INDOT.

The discussion focused on where the process breaks down, what each group needs from the others and how planning, scheduling and relocations can work better.

There are no quick fixes to these issues, but getting all four groups in the same room is an important start. Construction Suicide Prevention Week is Sept. 14–18. 🚧

Safety is a top priority for ICI and our members, and that means looking out for each other in every way. Mental health and suicide prevention are an important part of creating a safer workplace.

This week, we’re encouraging our members and the industry to take the Construction Suicide Prevention Week pledge and learn at least one new way to get help for someone in need.
